RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PROHIBITING CRITICAL RACE THEORY IN UTAH’S SCHOOLS

WHEREAS, America was founded on true and eternal principles as stated in the
Declaration of Independence and protected by the United States Constitution: “that all
men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable
Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
WHEREAS, “Critical Race Theory” (CRT) utterly disavows our founding principles and
ignores our national progress, such as the abolition of slavery, constitutional
amendments, and civil rights laws, to preserve liberty for all Americans and, instead
establishes the false premise that America has been and always will be a systemically
racist nation;
WHEREAS, CRT is designed to further divide Americans by indoctrinating young
students into being ashamed of their race and or being a victim because of their race,
setting races up against each other and advancing an ideology of hate;
WHEREAS, CRT insults and demeans Americans of color by teaching that they are less
intelligent and capable to succeed and must have, by the force of law, extra benefits
and special advantages to compete in society;
WHEREAS, CRT is diametrically opposite to American values and Republican
principles and fails to remember Martin Luther King Jr’s words to judge, “Not by the
color of their skin, but by the content of their character;”
WHEREAS, the Republican legislators in both the Utah House and Senate
unanimously passed resolutions, which identify risks of CRT in public education and
makes recommendations to the State Board of Education regarding the prohibition of
certain harmful concepts;
WHEREAS, the Utah Republican Party Platform states that we believe in “Equal
Rights”, specifically “the God-given individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution of
the United States and the Constitution of the State of Utah” and that “We recognize the
contributions made to our quality of life through ethnic diversity“ and ”affirm the infinite
worth of all individuals, and seek the best possible quality of life for all,” therefore be it
RESOLVED, the Utah Republican Party completely rejects Critical Race Theory as
un-American, societally destructive, and irreconcilable with American Human Rights and
Equality under the Law; and
RESOLVED, the Utah Republican Party firmly declares that Critical Race Theory and
similar concepts should never, under any circumstances, be taught in Utah's public
education system, including higher education, nor used for employee training in state
government entities, government contractors, or Utah’s judicial system;
RESOLVED, the Utah Republican Party supports teaching objective truths of American
history centered on the founding principles of our Constitution and Declaration of
Independence, the recognition of valuable contributions made to our country by all
Americans, the understanding of past mistakes and challenges that we have overcome,
and instruction through a lens of unity and equality as one nation under God, and finally
be it
RESOLVED, the Utah Republican Party fully supports Senator Mike Lee’s letter to the
Department of Education and supports the recent resolutions in both the Utah House
and Senate and calls on Republicans in the legislature and Governor Cox to pass and
sign legislation to prohibit Critical Race Theory and alike concepts prior to the next
school year.

This resolution shall be made public via an official Utah GOP press release and be published on the homepage of the Party’s website and social media accounts.
Digital copies of this resolution shall be sent from Chairman Jorgensen to members of the Utah GOP federal delegation and Republican state-level elected officials including, members of the Utah House and Senate, the governor and lieutenant governor, the attorney general, and state auditor.
An official email shall be sent out from Chairman Jorgensen to rank and file members of the Utah GOP regarding the passage of this resolution.
